Privacy policy

Who we are

Here at Brighton and Hove Psychotherapy, we want you to feel comfortable using our website and to trust us to deal with your information in a transparent, easy to understand way. Here are a few points to reassure you and to summarise the main content of our privacy policy:

  • We do not rent or trade your personal information with anyone else
  • We only record and hold information you give us that is necessary in order to deal with your enquiry

When you fill in the enquiry form on our website we store your name and email address and any message you send along with it. This is so we can reply to your enquiry. We do the same if you send us a message using any of the email links on the website or call us over the phone.

All your information is stored on a secure website, a secure email system and/or on a password-protected computer that’s only used by us.

Personal Information is data or information that, either alone or in combination with other information collected, identifies an individual. Personal information may include:

  • Full name

  • Contact details – i.e. email address, mobile/phone number
  • Other personal details you provide that will enable us to understand the nature of your enquiry and best allocate you to a clinician

All information we collect from you give us is done so with the purpose of appropriately and ethically referring you to a clinical member of our team (our associates), and of contacting you in the unlikely event of your therapist being unable to do so. We don’t use your data for anything else.

With regard to each of your visits to our site we may automatically collect the following information:

Technical information, including the internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the internet, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform.

Information about your visit including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL), clickstream to, through and from our site (including date and time), pages you viewed or searched for, page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), and methods used to browse away from the page and any phone number used to call our customer service number.

Counselling, psychotherapy and psychology enquiries will be collected with the sole purpose of referring you to a member of our clinical team (one of our associates).

Associates are self-employed clinicians who are affiliated to Brighton and Hove Psychotherapy. By providing us with your information, you are consenting to us passing your information to an appropriate associate and for that associate to make contact with you with a view to progressing your enquiry and setting up an initial consultation.

Once we have referred you to an associate, your contract is between them and you and they are responsible for the ongoing collecting, processing and managing of your data. We require that all of our associates be registered with ICO and have their own privacy policy in place.

Information we collect about you

To administer our site and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research, statistical and survey purposes.

To improve our site to ensure that content is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer.

To allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so.

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our site safe and secure.

Lastly, we may disclose your personal information to third parties if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation.

How long we hold your data

Enquiries pertaining to counselling, psychotherapy and psychology (clinical enquiries) are securely stored until we have referred you to an appropriate associate member of our team and they have confirmed to us that a therapeutic contract is either in place, or you have decided to not pursue your enquiry.

In addition, your contact details will be securely held with BHP for the duration of your therapy with the sole purpose of notifying you in the highly unlikely event of your therapist becoming incapacitated and unable to contact you for any other reason.

Where we store your personal data

The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”). By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

All information you provide to us via our website is stored on our secure servers.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our website. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.
