Sam Jahara

I am an experienced Psychotherapist and certified Coach offering both short and long term psychotherapy, clinical supervision and Executive Coaching in Hove, Lewes and online.

In my work I am supportive and non-judgemental, combined with being appropriately challenging and creating an environment that is accepting and empowering.

As a clinician, I draw on a set of complimentary methods in psychotherapy aiming to facilitate change and growth. My approach is relational, meaning I see what emerges in the relationship between client and therapist as an important aspect the therapeutic process and outcome.

My work is collaborative and respectful of the client’s pace and inner resources and I work towards forming a relationship based on mutual trust in a safe, boundaried and confidential environment.

Below is a short introductory video about my work.

I have many years of experience in the fields of mental health, personal development and therapy. I work with a wide range of psychological and emotional issues including but not limited to:

Communication difficulties, low self-esteem, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, relationship issues, issues around sex, sexuality and intimacy, grief and loss, trauma and post traumatic stress disorder, abuse, cultural issues, identity and belonging, difficulty expressing feelings and emotions, anger management, and stress.

My experience with therapy and personal development began 20 years ago, which subsequently led me to train and qualify in this field. With a background in Art and Design, I first trained in the field of Art-Therapy and subsequently as a Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Transactional Analyst. Originally from Brazil, I have lived, worked and trained in Germany, The Netherlands, Australia and the UK.

I have previously worked in the charity sector and as part of a multi-disciplinary mental health team in the NHS.  As the co-founder of Brighton and Hove Psychotherapy with Mark Vahrmeyer, I work in private practice from our premises in central Hove and in central Lewes, as well as online.

My academic and professional training in this field includes:

  • MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (Distinction) – Metanoia Institute
  • Certification as a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist (CTA)
  • Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (PTSTA)
  • First Class BA (Hons) in Counselling

Additional Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Relational Supervision – UKCP registered clinical superviser
  • Certificate in Coaching for Leadership – Psychodynamic Approaches: Tavistock Institute of Group Relations

Professional memberships/ registrations:

  • Registered with United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
  • Metanoia Institute
  • OPUS

I am multi-lingual and culturally aware and welcome clients from any cultural background; I have a personal and clinical interest in issues relating to cultural identity, a sense of belonging and feelings of being ‘uprooted’.

I am a registered provider with major private healthcare insurers.
