I’m Suzanne Worrica and I am a an experienced psychotherapist offering you the opportunity to explore your current struggles in a safe, non-judgemental and collaborative environment. I work with individuals and couples.
I have a particular interest in how we relate to others and I will work with you to understand your thoughts and feelings and uncover unhelpful patterns of behaviour that compel you to react rather than respond to other people and threatening situations. My specialisms also include childhood trauma, relationship dynamics and anxiety.
Gestalt therapy has a focus on the here and now: what you are experiencing in the therapy room indicates how you organise your interpersonal relationships in general. I work relationally, which means you and I working collaboratively (you are the expert on you after all!) and sometimes we will focus in on the moment-by-moment unfolding of the relationship. You will gain new insights – those ‘aha’ moments that are often the start of your journey to growth and change.
I take a holistic approach to therapy that includes your relationships with people and systems around you, and to you yourself. I also work with the body – it provides constant emotional feedback to the mind and brain. For you and I in the therapy room this means I will invite you to reflect on your current feelings, sensations, impulses and movements as well as your thoughts or what is troubling you. Rest assured we will go at your own pace with the understanding that many of us are wary of our bodily feelings. Ultimately, being curious about what’s going on inside increases our life force and brings more flexibility, choice and control over our actions. With me as your guide, you can use the therapy space to talk freely, explore silence, reflect, express, grieve and try on new ways of being and doing.
I am committed to updating my clinical knowledge to better support you. I am currently interested in where neuroscience meets psychotherapy (particularly how the mind-brain-gut axis impacts health and wellbeing) and emotional anatomy – the idea that we are embodied organisms.
I am also influenced by Attachment theory i.e. how our early experiences of bonding with our caregivers influences our future relationships.
In couples work I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy and contemporary thinkers on modern relationships. I also have a personal interest in themes of belonging and identity and intercultural dynamics. My practice is fully inclusive and I welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to engage in a holistic approach to psychotherapy and counselling.
