I am an experienced and senior mental health psychotherapist working in the NHS alongside working with a small private practice offering cognitive behavioural psychotherapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy and EMDR for trauma. I have over 15 years experience of working with clients experiencing difficulties triggered by life events that are having a negative impact on emotional well being. With a background in social work I am interested in the psycho-social and environmental context of a person’s life circumstances and how these impact on the individual’s ability to reach their full potential.
Working within CBT and IPT models I offer therapy that is influenced and informed by NICE guidelines for evidence-based treatment. However, I also ensure that an individualised treatment plan is developed by working together on your current difficulties and identifying goals for the course of therapy and beyond. I work alongside you to encourage an understanding of patterns of thinking and behaviour that we identify as having an unhelpful impact on your feelings and mood. At times of distress these patterns of thinking and responding can become extreme and unhelpful.
I work actively on developing a positive client – therapist relationship based on understanding respect and compassion. An effective relationship is at the heart of my practice and is reported to be central in positive therapy outcomes.
I am accredited with the BABCP and I keep up to date with new research and current theory through regular attendance on training courses. I have recently undertaken additional training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for the Treatment of Depression and have completed EMDR training to enhance my practice of working with trauma (both NICE evidenced recommended treatments). I also have significant experience and qualifications in CBT supervision. I receive regular clinical supervision from an accredited practitioner.
